Nerea Gurrutxaga grew up in San Sebastian, Basque Country. She graduated from LCDS (2014) with a First Class Degree. During her time at LCDS, she performed works by Sasha Roubicek, Wayne Parsons, Claire Cunningham and Joe Moran as well as improvisational performances led by Rick Nodine. Nerea participated in an exchange programme with Danish National School of Performing Arts in Copenhagen where she performed Trio A and participated in a residency that took place in PAF. She performed choreography (After the Flood) by Fionn Cox-Davies in Resolutions in January 2014 before graduating that summer.
Nerea undertook an apprenticeship with Scottish Dance Theatre as part of her postgraduate diploma, where she internationally toured and performed pieces by Anton Lachky, Jo Stromgren and Fleur Darkin. She is one of the creators of the Roundabout Collective in Scotland. She is currently working as a freelancer dancer in Glasgow. She has performed in Choreodrome and Touchwood in work by Anders Duckworth, Dance Live Festival with Choreospondance by Tim Casson and in various projects with Shaper Caper Dance Company. She is a member of Collective Endeavour, which focuses in music and dance improvisations) and she has worked for the company Curious Seed , choreographer Christine Devaney in a new creation called Teenage Trilogy. She is going to participate in the programme Dance Beyond integro-dance, where she will study the methods of flying low and passing through with David Zambrano.
